Kosaku Morita
Kosaku Morita was born in 1976, in Japan?s Nara prefecture. Shortly after completing high school he travelled to Australia to learn and experience the practice of organic farming as a member of WWOOF (World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms). As a result of his experiences in Australia, Kosaku decided that some day he wanted to have his own organic farm. In order to further develop his farming skills and deepen his understanding of organic farming, Kosaku and his (then) new wife, Mariko went to New Zealand, where they engaged in more volunteer opportunities on organic farms.
At the age of twenty-five, Kosaku returned to Japan, where he started working for a trading company that specializes in importing agricultural products including grains, dehydrated fruit and vegetables from Thailand, India, the Philippines and Canada for the purpose of promoting the development of new types of agricultural products which can be imported, distributed, and sold within the Japanese market.
In 2005, Raymond Loo, an organic farmer from Prince Edward Island, Canada, was in Japan searching for new markets for organic fruit and vegetables grown on small and medium-sized family farms on Prince Edward Island. Providentially, Raymond and Kosaku?s paths crossed, and the two entrepreneurs established a partnership that combined their mutual passion for organic farming, healthy eating, and sustainable farming communities, to promote Prince Edward Island-grown organic and non-genetically modified (non-GMO) products in the Japanese market. Anne?s PEI Farm was born out of their joint vision. Kosaku has been coordinating the company?s marketing strategy since its inception, establishing strong relationships with our business partners in Japan; communicating with farmers and processors on Prince Edward Island; and coordinating the import of high quality food products from Prince Edward Island into Japan. He visits Prince Edward Island bi-annually, often accompanied by Anne?s PEI Farm?s current as well as potential Japanese business partners, to strengthen the relationship between our distributors in Japan and farmers and processors operating on Prince Edward Island. Kosaku has been working closely with Marumo Co., Ltd, which produces healthy and environmentally sustainable food products in Japan, in order to ensure the successful marketing and distribution of our products within the Japanese market. He continues to seek out and build new business relationships with companies that share Anne?s PEI Farm?s dedication to environmentally and socially responsible business ethics and practices.
Kosaku and Mariko live in Nara prefecture, Japan with the newest member of Anne?s PEI Farm?s growing family, their daughter Hina.
