Organic Canola
Our vision is that in the future, farming on Prince Edward Island will be entirely organic. Being an island is a distinct advantage in growing non-GMO canola because canola pollen is spread by wind and bees. With the widespread planting of GMO canola in North America, it is near impossible to grow GMO-free canola without GMO contamination from neighbouring fields. Prince Edward Island has the advantage of being in North America and being surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, which provides us with a natural buffer from the mainland. Our geographic isolation provides us with an opportunity to do what most places in North American cannot do: provide our customers with the assurance that our canola is 100% GMO-free.
In addition to being GMO-free, our organic canola is grown in nutrient-rich soils, and irrigated by cool summer and fall rains. In mid-summer the bright yellow canola blossoms turn our fields into undulating golden seas that contrast beautifully with the bright blue skies, the red earth and deep blue of the Atlantic.
