Organic Soybean Production Flowchart

View Product Details

We begin preparing the land two years in advance by enriching our soil with various forms of marine, animal and/or plant derived sources of nutrients.

We plant non-GMO soybean varieties that are known to have high protein levels

We plant our soybeans in the middle to the end of May, after the last frost of the season

We control weeds through cultivation in mid-June when the soybeans are in their four or five leaf growth stage

Our soybeans are combined in late October and early November. Our harvesting machinery is cleaned thoroughly before the harvest to guarantee that it meets the organic standards

We dry our soybeans, reducing moisture level to 14%, at a local drying facility. The dried beans are stored in one tonne tote bags or in steel bins. All cleaning equipment and storage space is thoroughly cleaned to meet organic standards

The soybeans are loaded into containers and transported to regional markets in the Maritimes or to Halifax, where they are shipped by sea to our partners in Japan. Most of our soybeans sold within Canada are used for organic livestock feed. The soybeans exported to Japan are processed at their destination, and used to make tofu and soy sauce.
