Anne of Green Gables
Anne of Green Gables is the story written by L.M. Montgomery in 1908. The story is about an orphaned girl, Anne Shirley, sent to live on Prince Edward Island. She was mistakenly placed in the home of Matthew and Marilla who were looking for a boy to help out on the farm. After Matthew met Anne he could not say no to this talkative child and took her home. The story is written through the eyes of Anne, a child growing up on Prince Edward Island. She explores the wonders of nature and makes lasting friends with the community, which she loved dearly. There were many adventures because she was very active and had a temper to match her long red hair and freckles. In the end she won the hearts of Matthew and Marilla, who were very proud of her successes. Since then Anne has become known as one of the most loveable children in English fiction who captured the hearts of readers around the world.

Lucy Maud Montgomery was raised in Cavendish located in Queens County in the central portion of Prince Edward Island. The Anne of Green Gables story was inspired by the land, the sea and the people around her. It in turn has imparted an image of the Island that draws many visitors from around the world to Green Gables House: a cultural and historic landmark where thousands come to see the home that inspired L.M. Montgomery to write the novel Anne of Green Gables. The modest farm home is just part of a site that also includes an extensive program to interpret Montgomery's time and the lifestyle of rural PEI in the early 1900's. Elsewhere in Anne's Land, visitors will find the landscape so lovingly depicted by Montgomery: rolling farm fields stretching down to the shore, red cliffs and tiny villages.,/p>
